Novotech has developed a fundamentally new technology for producing nanostructured composites for catalytic systems based on metal oxides with ALD or ultra-thin coatings.
For example, Novotech has developed a nanostructured composite comprising of CuO nanoparticles coated with a nanoscale layer of turbostratic carbon. The formation of the carbon shell directly on copper oxide nanoparticles provides synergistic effects between CuO (enhanced specific capacity and catalytic activity) and carbon (high conductivity, buffering of volumetric deformation, and protection against agglomeration and SEI degradation). The unique combination of these properties, compatibility with carbon matrices, low cost, and ease of large-scale manufacturing make this material a highly profitable and versatile additive for carbon-based materials used in energy storage and conversion (lithium batteries, fuel cells, supercapacitors) as well as in catalytic systems.
